Ismaily Defeats Goldi 1-0
March 16, 2002

Nader El Sayed in despair

In a very emotional and tense match, Ismaily managed to gain three valuable points by defeating Goldi 1-0 at home in Ismailia Stadium.

The first half was dividable into three segments. Ismaily started off the match very energetically, putting early pressure on Nader El Sayed. The most dangerous chance came after about a quarter of an hour, when El Nahas took a nice shot that was inches off-target. However, about 20 minutes into the first half, the game began to die down, with yellow control of the ball but very little effectiveness. Towards the end of the half, Ismaily began once again to put pressure on Goldi. El Nahas missed another near-goal situation in the 35th minute, but Goldi continued to keep it clean.

As coach Mohamad Salah began to realize that he would be unable to take control of this game, he began to instruct his team to play more defensively. The second half witnessed full Ismaily control and domination, with a few weak Goldi counter attacks that were saved by a quite-shaky Mohamad Fathy. The game began to heat up as the seconds ticked away, and the nets remained clean. Hamam Ibrahim and Sayed Moawwad made a great team down the left flank, sending in numerous crosses to Abo Greisha and Bassiouny. Nader El Sayed was able to save most of these, showing that he does still possess the talent of an international goal keeper.

Starting the 70th minute, Ismaily put full pressure on Goldi, but all attacks ended being saved by Nader or missed by Ismaily’s strikers. Barakat and Bassyo attempted to drive through the defense several times, and reached the goal successfully, but were unable to finish. In the 75th minute, Mohsen Saleh pulled out M. Abdullah and sent in A. Razek, hoping that this third attacker would break Goldi’s defense. The next five minutes witnessed cross after cross from H. Ibrahim and Moawwad. Finally, in the 39th minute, Mohamad Mohsen Abu Greisha received a cross, which he headed powerfully at the goal. The ball hit the post in what seemed like another unlucky attack , but bounced back , hit Nader, and then the back of the net.

The final minutes of the match witnessed open play by both teams, with a few attacks conducted by each as the fans awaited the final whistle. Ismaily will have much work to do on practicing finishing and final touches before Zamalek’s game, which is scheduled to take place sometime near the end of this month.
